APA Referencing


This guide aims to assist the MNU library members with correct referencing using APA style. This guide is compiled by MNU Library.

Author Variation

No Authors

In-text citation

When no author is mentioned, use the title in place of author in both in-text citation and reference list. Shorten the title if it is too long

in the book Research methods (2004) mentions… OR

as has been shown (Research methods., 2004)

Reference List

Research methods. (2004) Melbourne, VIC: Pearson Australia.

Single Author

In-text citation

Kessler (2003) found that among epidemiological samples…. OR

Early onset results in a more persistent and severe course (Kessler, 2003)

Reference List

Kessler, M. (2003). Research methods. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press.

Two Authors

In-text citation

List both authors in every citation. Spell out ‘and’ if it forms part of the sentence in the in-text citation.
